In the past, I've often used the excuse that it's too expensive to eat healthy. As I have started changing my diet to include primarily whole foods, I'm finding this is not the case. For the month of June, I am going to keep track of what I spend on food and bust this myth once and for all. I plan to only buy fresh ingredients, or use what I have in my pantry already. I figure I will then only be buying healthy ingredients and cleaning out the cupboards at the same time! I've made one trip to Trader Joe's so far, stocking up on fruits, veggies, chicken, etc. for a whopping $29.00. I was also the lucky recipient of some vegetables, fresh from my friend's garden. I'll let you know at the end of the month how my little experiment fared.
** Update on June 30th: I've added up my grocery receipts for the month, and I spent $112.00. I made a few more trips to the store than usual to keep stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables. I spent maybe $20-$25.00 more this month on food, but feel it was well worth it. I also dropped three pounds this month without doing any diet plan or increased exercise program. That sure is incentive to keep up eating fresh! **
