Book Review: The Likeness by Tana French

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I stumbled upon The Likeness in a used bookstore and bought it on a whim. I don't normally read crime fiction, but I was planning a trip to Dublin and I thought it could be a fun read. The plot reads like a Gothic novel: mysterious lady, ominous house, suspenseful mystery. I couldn't put it down! French weaves a seductive story of outcast friends who come together to form a family unit. The world they create is so enticing that even an undercover detective can't bring herself to leave.  I enjoyed The Likeness so much that I have since read the other books in the Dublin Murder Squad series and anxiously await the next volume. Each book in the series gives me greater insight into the city of Dublin and the Irish people, which has been very interesting after visiting the country.  If you are looking for a clever and suspenseful whodunit to read this summer, this is the book for you!
