Friday Favorite Book: Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier

Rebecca
If you have been following along with my August Break photo challenge, you may have seen that yesterday's photo prompt was book. I wanted to photograph my favorite book, which just so happens to be my prettiest one as well.  Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier has always been my favorite book. I first read this in elementary school and was sucked in by the mystery of this Gothic suspense novel.   I have since reread it several times, and each reading makes me appreciate it even more. Rebecca is the story of a naive young woman who marries an older and mysterious man who may or may not have murdered his first wife. Our unnamed heroine arrives at Manderley, the family's ancestral home, timid and unsure how to behave as the new wife of the infamous Maxim de Winter. She soon becomes haunted by the great shadow of Rebecca, Maxim's glamorous and charming first wife. As the new Mrs. de Winter tries to settle into life at Manderley, Rebecca's body is found and Maxim must once again defend himself.   Did he kill his wife? Will he pay for a crime he didn't commit? And what will happen to Mrs. de Winter when the dust settles? If you are looking for a book that will keep you reading long into the night, I highly recommend you check out Rebecca.
