Travel Tuesday: Being Mermaids in California

Travel Tuesday: Being Mermaids in San Diego

I just got back from my girls getaway in San Diego and am feeling so happy after a weekend away.  Three days spent looking out at the ocean, feeling the fresh air on my skin and catching up with my mom and sister did a world of good.  I will share all the details of our trip soon, but for now here are a few impressions before real life sets back in.  It's been years since I was in San Diego, and it was never prettier!  My favorite colors are pink and blue, and I swear the whole city donned those colors just for us.  I saw everything through pastel colored glasses, and it felt like we were living some mermaid fantasy on the seashore!  Just look at the photo above.  Could there be a prettier sunset over the water?  I sure felt the call of the ocean!

We enjoyed dinner the first night at 1887 on the Bay, a restaurant in a historic boathouse on Glorietta Bay.  We sat for a few hours, sipping on vodka and St. Germain cocktails aptly named the Mermaid.  The design of the famous Hotel Del Coronado was inspired by the boathouse, so it was only fitting the hotel was our next destination.

We walked around the beautifully manicured grounds of the Hotel Del Coronado as the sun started to set, and had made our way to the water in time to see the sky turn from blue, to pink to black.  Nothing can make you feel your place in the world like standing next to the ocean at sunset.  After enjoying this magical sunset together, we flipped our fins back to our hotel room and dreamed of underwater grottoes and handsome mermen.  What can I say, the sea was calling to us!
